Am I Brave, Bold or a Buffoon? You make the call.

My daughter is full of one liners that really make me think.  On the way to the bakery yesterday morning, she was complaining about the hood of her new jacket.  It’s one of those down jackets with the fur lined hood.  She HAD to have it in the store, but then wasn’t liking it so much in her daily wear.  (You know how that goes; we are all fooled by the dressing room mirror sometimes!)  She said the hat was too big.

Well, I tried explaining that was the style right now.  And, that it allowed her to wear a little hat under the hood for days when it is really cold!  Unimpressed with my logic, she told me it was certainly NOT the style to have so much space around the head.  The hood was doing no good, only annoying her by slouching and sticking fuzzy wuzzy in her face.

But, wait.  I get redemption (sort of).

As we are standing on the corner, waiting for the light to change green for pedestrians, I see a lady across the street.  She is wearing the same style coat, but with an EVEN BIGGER hood.  Smirking, I look at my daughter, and calmly say, “See, I told you it was the style.”  (Mature, right?)  Her reply, “Oh, well, I see.  OK.  Then you should get one, too, Mom.”

Not sure what that has anything to do with, but okay, let’s go with it.

“I need one, too, huh?”

“Yep.  Everyone is wearing them.  It’s what the German girls like.”

“Oh, I see.  Well, can’t I be different?”

Aha.  There you have it.  The story of my life.  I’ve never succumbed to the theory of sameness, blending in and making things easier for myself.  If I had only learned this when I was 8!

So, in an effort to be even more different and show the world it is, indeed, okay to veer from the norms of society, I hereby invoke my latest idea – A Project of the Month.  I like projects.  They give me direction, a sense of purpose and ease my nerves when I start panicking about too much autonomy.

The first three months are already in the works.  I hope you will stick around and let me dazzle you with my weirdness!
